A NEW LOCAL NURSERY (新しい園芸店に行ってみました)

His Majesty the Emperor of Japan abdicates today,
and the Heisei period ends at last.

天皇陛下が本日ご退位されます.
そしていよいよ平成も終わりを告げます.

It is so exiting to visit nurseries in this season, isn't it?

There are a number of young plants as well as gardening tools. 

A new nursery was open recently not far from our home, 

and we visited there for the first time because it was rainy (not good for gardening) . 

We encountered many rare plants and had a good time to consider which plants we should buy.  We bought several kinds of plants for pots. 

We recommend this nursery. 

この季節に園芸店に行くとワクワクしますね.

園芸用品はもちろんたくさんの苗！

新しい園芸店が家からそう遠くないところにオープンして

ちょうど雨で庭仕事もできなかったので初めて訪ねてみました.

めずらしい植物にたくさん出会えて、どれを買おうかと考えて楽しい時間でした.

何種類か鉢植えの植物を買いました.

この園芸店はお勧めです.

TRIMMING BOX (西洋つげの剪定)

Fresh leaves of box hedge have vigorously grown in the potager, 

and paths became narrower. 

We are going to open our gardens for public in a couple of weeks. 

So we trimmed the box hedge today

and paths are wider and easy to walk.

ポタジェの西洋つげの若葉が旺盛に成長して

通路が狭くなっていました.

2週間後にはオープンガーデンの予定です.

通路の幅を広くして歩きやすくするために今日剪定をしました.

CLIMBING ROSES ARE READY FOR FLOWERING IN MAY (つるバラ開花準備完了)

We have five iron rose arches in Main Garden,
on which 'Pierre de Ronsard’, 'Angela', 'Snow Goose', ’François Juranville'
and ’Mortimer Sackler’ are growing. 

Other six roses are on the brick wall;
'Constance Spry', 'Gertrude Jekyll’, 'Teasing Georgia', 'Pat Austin', 'Crown Princess Margareta' and 'Pauls Himalayan Musk’.
 They bear a number of flower buds

主庭には5つの鉄のアーチがあり、
ピエールドロンサール、アンジェラ、スノーグース、フランソアジュランビル、
そしてモティマーサックラーの5種類のつるバラを育てています.
煉瓦塀には6種類のつるバラ、
コンスタンススプライ、ガートルードジェキル、ティージングジョージア、
パットオースチン、クラウンプリンセスマルガリータ、
そしてポールズヒマラヤンムスクが誘引されています.
つるバラたちはたくさんの花の蕾をつけています.

GORGEOUS PURPLE CLEMATIS (豪華な紫のクレマチス)

Clematis 'Shishinden' is a superb variety which bears many purple large flowers. 

It flowers in April in our area.

もう一つのバラのアーチに誘引しています

クレマチスの紫宸殿はたくさん大きな紫の花をつける優れた品種です.
このあたりでは４月に開花します.

ORIENTAL POPPY (オリエンタルポピー)

Oriental poppy has flowered for the first time in our garden. 

We bought its seeds at a nursery in Cotswolds and sowed them three years ago. 

Some sprouted and grew, however, it bore no flower in last two season and it looked died last summer. 

I found this plant in a pentagonal asparagus raised bed last September,

 though I gave it up to flower. 

I was not sure it is Oriental poppy at that time. 

Now, it flowers and we look at this stunnig flower at last. 

Its name is Papaver orientale 'Princess Victoria Louise'.
Its flower stalk is shorter than usual.
I hope its stalk grow longer next season.

At the end of September, I found a young plant withlobed leaves.
九月の終わりに切れ込みのある葉を持つ小さな植物をみつけました. 

With purple young asparagus sprouts.

Asparagus is growing in a raised bed with flowers
such as Oriental poppy, silene, nigella and California poppy
アスパラが育つレイズドベッドでは、オリエンタルポピー、フクロナデシコ、ニゲラ、
そしてカリフォルニアポピーが一緒に育っています

オリエンタルポピーがうちの庭で咲くのは初めてです.
3年前にコッツウォルズのナーセリーでその種を買って植えました.
いくつか発芽しましたが、一昨年、去年と花は咲かず、夏には枯れたようでした.
もう花はあきらめていましたが、
去年の秋に五角形のアスパラのレイズドベッドでこの植物を見つけました.
そして今、花が咲きついにこの素晴らしい花を見ることができています.

品種名は「プリンセス ヴィクトリア ルイーズ」
花茎は通常より短いようですが
来年は長く育ってくれたらと思います.

SWEET SCENT OF JASMINE (ジャスミンの甘い香り)

Jasminum polyanthum is flowering now beside a small fountain.
It has a strong sweet scent
and we enjoy it when we walk in the garden. 

Looking out over the sea and mountains.

Mt. Kaya

羽衣ジャスミンが小さな噴水の横で今咲いています.

強い芳香をもっていて、

庭を歩くときに香りを楽しんでいます.

It is also flowering on an arch of the gate. 

庭の入り口のアーチの上でも咲いています.
