Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

AN EXCELLENT PRIZE IN GARDENING CONTEST (コンテストで優秀賞いただきました)

I won an excellence prize in a gardening contest held by a local nursery.

I applied for the contest sending three photographs (shown below)

that I took in our gardens this season.

It's an honor to win the prize, and I am really glad.

TRIMMING CLIMBING ROSES (ツルバラの剪定)

This morning I trimmed long shoots of climbing roses in the main garden.

今朝は主庭のツルバラの長いシュートを切り詰めました.

The first was 'Mortimer Sackler' beside the white wooden fence.

一つは白いフェンスの横のモーティマーサックラーです

The next was 'Angela' on the iron arch.

二つ目は鉄製アーチのアンジェラです

And the last was 'Snow Goose' on a iron arbour.

そして最後が鉄製のドーム型アーチのスノーグースです

The maximum temperature was 35 degrees today,
and Met Office says very hot days will continue for more than a week.

最高気温は35度
気象庁は猛暑が一週間以上続くと予想しています

BLUEBERRY JAM - FROM PICKING TO BOTTLING (ブルーベリージャム、摘み取りから瓶詰めまで)

We are in the middle of the blueberry season in our garden.
Every weekend we pick fruits and make jam.
Some are for eating at home, some for presents
and others for selling at Open-garden for charity in May.
Because it is hot even in the morning,
picking blueberries is a hard work,
however, it is really fun to pick fruits and make jam.
Today we bottled 23 jars (130g each).

庭はブルーベリーのシーズン真っ盛り、
毎週末はブルーベリー摘みとジャム作りです.
家での食用、プレゼント用、そしてチャリティーオープンガーデンでの販売用です.
朝でも暑いので摘み取り作業は大変ですが、
摘み取ってジャムをつくるのは楽しいものです.
今日は23個の瓶に詰めました.

REFRESHING MORNING (朝は爽やか)

It's very hot in daytime, however, there is a refreshing moment
early in the morning.
White Lantana camara is flowering with purple Lantana montevidensis
in the central raised bed.
Flowers of gaura tremble in the breeze.

日中はとても暑いけど、早朝は爽やかな瞬間があります.
白いランタナが紫色のコバノランタナと一緒に中央花壇で咲いています.
ガウラの花がそよ風に揺れます.

BLUE SKY AND RAINY SEASON IS OVER (青空と梅雨明け)

The Met Office declared that the rainy season is over today in the northern part of Kyushu Island.
The sky is blue and some white clouds are floating.
Our gardens are covered with weeds and shoots of climbing roses are growing long, which make the gardens disorderly.

So, we would have lots of gardening jobs.
