This is my favorite photograph of the kitchen garden in May 2013.
Two handmade pentagonal cold frames are arranged symmetrically beside a sundial in the center.
When I made four pentagonal raised beds in the kitchen garden, I designed several pentagonal cold frames and made a paper model of one of the designs.

The final design was determined and I started to build it.

A pentagonal base framework was made of timber. |
|
A framework was completed and painted dark blown. |
Basal five rectangular parts of the cold frame were covered with transparent polycarbonate, and other triangular windows were covered with fine metal mesh. In a cold season, thin plastic film was overlaid to keep its inside warm. The center triangular part was made openable for inside cares.

Those cold frames are lovely, Very original and, I'm sure, very useful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your comment. A weak point of the cold frames is its size and weight. It takes two people to move it.
Deleteすてきなコールドフレームは御自作だったのですね♪
ReplyDelete使い勝手のいい作りになっていて、年中使えそうですね。
真夏はさすがにhot frameになります(笑)
