Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

OUR FIRST VISIT TO ENGLISH GARDENS PART 1 (初めての英国庭園訪問その１)

We visited UK for the first time in 2010.
It was in early June.
We visited several English gardens as members of a group garden tour.
The garden we visited first was Sissinghurst Castle Garden
on 7th June 2010; precisely ten years ago!

初めて英国を訪問したのは2010年でした.

六月の初旬、
ガーデン訪問ツアーの一員としていくつかのイングリッシュガーデンを訪問、
最初に訪れたのはシシングハーストカースルガーデンでした
それはちょうど10年前の今日です.

The second garden we visited on the first day was Mottisfont Abbey Garden.
It was famous as a walled rose garden
which which is home to the National Collection of ancestral species
and 19th-century rose cultivars with David Austin roses.

同じ日に次に訪れたのはモティスフォントアビーガーデン
オールドローズのコレクションとデビッドオースチンのバラが栽培される
レンガ塀に囲まれた庭で有名です

A meadow garden was so stunning
草花の草原がとても綺麗でした

We saw a knot garden for the first time here.
ノットガーデンはここで初めて見ました

This was the place we most wanted to look at when we visited here
because of a reason mentioned below.
理由は下に書いていますが
このガーデンで一番見たかった場所がここです

A gorgeous bench and climbing rose on a brick wall
ゴージャスなベンチとレンガ塀のつるバラ

So many climbing roses were flowering on the brick wall.
レンガ塀ではたくさんのつるバラが咲いていました

Peony was stunning, too.
シャクヤクもとても素晴らしい

My wife Marple said she wanted to live in a house like this.
家内はこんなお家に住みたいと言っていました

We read an article about these two gardens in an April edition of of the most popular Japanese gardening magazine 'Bises' just before we visited UK.

In this article, we were attracted to the picture of a gorgeous white bench and a pink climbing rose ('Constance Spry'; the first rose created by David Austin) on the brick wall behind it.

I took a picture of Marple sitting on the bench.

This is the starting point of our 'Petit English Garden'.

イギリスに出立する直前にガーデニング雑誌のビズの4月号で上の二つの庭の記事を読んでいて、特にレンガ塀のつるバラの前の豪華な白いベンチの写真に魅了されました

このベンチに腰かけた家内の写真を撮りました

ここが私たちの庭、ペティートイングリッシュガーデンの原点なのです
