White Rosa 'Iceberg' and narcissus |
Narcissus planted at the upper entrance of the garden has also begun flowering.
Narcissus reminds me of the story in Greek mythology. Narcissus was the son of the river god Cephissus and the nymph Liriope, and was distinguished for his beauty.
He rejected the love of the nymph Echo, and fell in love with his own reflection in the waters of a spring and killed himself. From his dying life's blood the flower was born, and Narcissus is still admiring himself in the Underworld, looking at the waters of the Styx...
The words, 'narcissist' and 'narcissism' are derived from this story.
