There are many trees blooming white flowers in Jun, in our garden and in our neighbourhood.

The largest flower is evergreen magnolia (Magnolia grandiflora). This tall tree is native in North America, and its flower is very large and fragrant.

Next one is angel's trumpet (Brugmansia). It is a large shrub and the name refers to the large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped flowers.

Japanese privet (Ligustrum japonicum) is native to Japan and Korea. It is an evergreen tree growing to 6 m tall, and its flowers are white, with a four-lobed corolla 5–6 mm long. The flowers are borne in clusters 7–15 cm long in early summer.

The next is Nandina domestica (it's called 'Nan-ten' in Japanese). It is an erect evergreen shrub up to 2 m and its flowers are white, borne in early summer in clusters. The fruit is a bright red berry 5–10 mm diameter, ripening in late autumn and often persisting through the winter.

This is a Japanese chestnut (Castanea crenata) tree. It is a deciduous tree growing to 10-15 m tall. Its flowers of both sexes are borne in 7-20 cm long, upright catkins, the male flowers in the upper part and female flowers in the lower part. The female flowers develop into spiny cupules containing 2-3 brownish chestnuts that are shed during late September. We pick up nuts and enjoy cooking rice with chestnuts.
