Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

SAND AND DUST STORM HIT US (黄砂来襲)

Since yesterday, yellow sand has been flying in from mainland China, making visibility extremely poor. The sky has a slight brownish tinge.　It is best to stay indoors as much as possible and not do too much work in the garden.

昨日から黄砂が中国大陸から飛んできて、視界が極めて悪くなっています。空は少し茶色がかっています。こんな時はできるだけ家の中にいて、庭仕事もあまりしない方がよさそうです。

ENGLISH VEGETABLE GARDEN AS A MODEL FOR OUR POTAGER (お手本にした英国の菜園)

Here's a look at one of Britain's most famous vegetable gardens, which was the model for our own. We visited Barnsley House in Cirencester 9 years ago.

我が家のポタジェのモデルとなったイギリスの有名な菜園の一つをご紹介しましょう. サイレンセスターにあるバーンズリーハウスを訪ねたのは9年前です.

I had seen this garden in a book ’Gardens around the world; 365days' and had always wanted to visit it, so when I found a tour of British gardens including this one, I joined.　

一年の日めくり形式で世界の庭園を紹介する本で見て、是非一度は訪ねたいと思っていた菜園で、ここを含めてイギリスの庭園を回るツアーを見つけて参加しました。

I have learnt a lot from this kitchen garden and applied it to our own garden.

この菜園からさまざまなことを学び、うちの庭に応用しました.

入り口の扉はこれとそっくりに作りました.

Sometimes we put up scarecrows in the garden.

Low box hedges have also been built in our garden.
低いセイヨウツゲの生け垣はうちの庭にも作りました

We also grow colourful vegetables and flowers together in our potager.
うちのポタジェでも、カラフルな野菜やお花を一緒に育てています.

PINK AND RED FLOWERS IN OUR GARDEN (庭のピンクと赤い花たち)

There are many varieties of pink and red flowers already in bloom. In the early summer there will be more roses in bloom and more varieties.

ピンクや赤の花は種類も多く、すでにたくさん咲いています. これからさらに初夏にかけてはさらにバラなどが咲いてきて種類も多くなります.

The pink marguerite is a gentle and enchanting flower to look at.
ピンクのマーガレットは見た目もやさしく、うっとりしますね.

This wild variety of tulip has a yellow centre and is a very cheerful colour.
この原種のチューリップは中央が黄色で、元気をだしてくれる色です.

The name of this camellia is "Otome-Tubaki (maiden camellia)" and it is a pink flower which blooms in a similar way to a rose.
この椿の名前は「乙女椿」、バラに似た咲き方のピンクの花です.

This lovely flowering tree is Chinese quince (Karin).
この可愛らしい花をつける木はカリンです.

YELLOW FLOWERS IN OUR GARDEN (庭の黄色い花たち)

Some yellow flowers are in bloom now in our garden. They are encouraging and make us happy.

庭に黄色い花が咲いています. 私たちを励まし、幸せにしてくれます.

Our acasia is a little late and is starting to bloom now.

我が家のミモザは少し遅咲きで、今から咲き始めています.

The leaves, flowers, fruits and seeds of nasturtium are pungent and sour, edible and often used in salads and for colouring.

葉、花、果実、種子は辛みと酸味があって食用になり、サラダや彩りによく利用されます.

After all, tulips are the most popular spring bulb plant.

何といっても春の球根植物の代表はチューリップですね.

Viola is in bloom all winter long and its flowers increase in number in spring until early summer.

WHITE FLOEWRS IN OUR GARDEN (庭の白い花々)

Today I'd like to introduce you to the white flowers in our garden. Even now, in March, there are many varieties of white flowers in bloom. Some are annuals, some are perennials, some are trees.

今日は庭の白い花を紹介しましょう. 三月の今の時期でもおよそ十種類あまりの白い花が咲いています. 一年草もあれば多年草、花木もあります.
