THE FIRST WARM SPRING-LIKE AFTERNOON (初めての春のような陽気の午後)
Yesterday afternoon was the first time it was warm enough to feel like spring, which made working in the garden a lot less stressful. Marple did her annual teak oiling of the benche and spent the afternoon relaxing on the sunny arbour seat with a gardening magazine.
昨日の午後は、初めて春のように暖かくて、庭仕事もストレスなくできました. マープルさんは毎年一度のベンチのチークオイル塗りをして、午後は日の当たるアーバーシートで園芸誌を読んだりしてくつろいでいました.

DECIDUOUS TREES IN MIDWINTER (真冬の落葉樹)
It's late February, the weather is still cold and most of the deciduous trees have yet to bud. Perhaps spring is coming a little late this year.
2月も下旬になり、まだ寒い日が続いて、落葉樹の大半はまだ芽が膨らむ様子はありません. 今年は少し春が来るのが遅いのかもしれません.

THE FIRST FLOWER OF CAMELLIA 'OTOME' (乙女椿の一番花）
Camellia japonica 'Otome-tsubaki', a popular camellia for its beautiful shape and colour, is in its first flower. It has a lot of buds and will be in bloom from now until spring. It looks like a pink rose.
美しい形と色でポピュラーなツバキ、乙女椿が最初の花を咲かせています. たくさん蕾もついていて、これから春にかけて楽しめそうです. ピンクのバラのようにも見えます.

BLUE FLOWERS IN CENTRAL BED (中央花壇の青い花)
February is the time of the year when flowers are scarce and the central flowerbed is a little bare, but the blue colour of the hyacinths and violas is very beautiful.
The hyacinths were bought as sprouting bulbs, put in a plastic basket and planted in the central flower bed. In the summer and autumn they completely lose their leaves and it is easy to lose track of where I have planted them, so I planted them in a basket in the flower bed. I have also planted geraniums in terracotta pots and buried them.
The violas, which will be in bloom until May, are planted in the borders near the garden room. I hope they will grow up to the time of the open garden.
2月は花の少ない季節で、中央花壇もさみしいですが、ヒアシンスとビオラの青い色がとても綺麗です.
ヒアシンスは芽がでている球根を買って、プラスチックのカゴに入れて中央花壇に植え付けました. 夏から秋は完全に葉がなくなるので、どこに植えたか行方不明になってしまうので、カゴに入れた状態で花壇に植えました. 他に、ゲラニウムなども素焼きの鉢に植えた状態で埋め込んでいます.
5月ごろまで咲いてくれるビオラも、花壇のいちばんガーデンルーム寄りに苗を植えました. オープンガーデンの頃には大きく育っていると思います.

EARLY SHOWING SPRING FLOWERS (早咲きの春の花)
On the south-east side of the house it is a bit warmer and some of the spring flowers have already started to bloom.
家の南東側では少し暖かいのか、春に咲く花がもう咲き始めています.
One of them is the blue flowered borage. The flowers are very beautiful and are used to decorate dishes.
そのひとつが青い花のボリジです. 花がとても美しく、料理などの飾りにも使われます.
The other is a North Pole. It is a beautiful white flower of the Asteraceae family.
もう一つはノースポールです. キク科の白い花でとても綺麗です.

ANOTHER NARCISSUS IN A POT (鉢植えのもう一つの水仙)
I planted a small bulb in a pot in the autumn and it has a small and pretty flower. I am enjoying it indoors. I am looking forward to seeing more and more bulbs.
秋に小さな球根を植えていた鉢に小さくてかわいい花が咲きました. 室内に置いて楽しんでいます. 少しずつ球根が増えていくのが楽しみです.

THE SEASON OF NARCISSUS (スイセンの季節)
Narcissuses are blooming here and there in the garden. There are several varieties. The sun is setting later and later, and the days are getting longer and longer. I am excited to think that spring is almost here, when the greenery will be bursting forth, and that in just three months we will be welcoming many visitors to our garden.
庭ではあちこちでスイセンが咲いています. 数種類あります. 日没が少しずつ遅くなってきて、日が少しずつ長くなっているのを感じます. 緑が沸き上がる春がもうすぐそこ、そしてあと3か月でたくさんの方たちを庭に迎えるときが来ると思うと、ワクワクしてきます.
