Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

AUTUMN BREEZE FOR THE FIRST TIME (初めての秋風)

At the end of August, after a long drought, the first typhoon brought rain, but then there was no rain again and the heat wave continued. Finally, we had another 100mm of rain with lots of thunder, which moistened the garden for the first time in a long time and saved us from having to water it every day. After the rain, a northerly wind brought a dry, cool autumn breeze, and the daytime temperatures were around 30 degrees Celsius, making it finally comfortable.

In the garden, the coleus, which had coloured the garden with its bright foliage all summer, has started to produce small blue flowers and the Mexican sage has started to produce purple flowers. The summer of 2024, which was the hottest on record, finally seems to be coming to an end.

八月の末に長い干ばつのあと初めて雨が降りましたが、それからまた雨が降らずに猛暑が続いていました。そしてやっとまたたくさんの雷とともに100ミリほどの雨が降って久しぶりに庭が潤って毎日の水やりから解放されました。雨の後、北風が秋の乾いた涼しい風をつれてきてくれて、日中も30度ぐらいで、やっと過ごしやすくなりました。

庭では夏の間ずっと鮮やかな葉色で庭を彩ったコリウスが小さな青い花をつけ、アメジストセージが紫の花を咲かせ始めました。記録的な猛暑が続いた2024年の夏もやっと終わりが近づいたようです。
