ACACIA FLOWERS IN NOVEMBER

Acacia conferta (Golden-top) is now flowering at the top of our garden.
Its bright yellow spherical fluffy flowers and very fine leaves
similar to rosemary look so stunning.
I really love it.

MAKING AN ARBOUR SEAT 1 (アーバーシート自作 その1)

I hit upon an idea of making an arbour seat in the border about a year ago,
and researched its design.
There are so many different designs; shapes and colours.

I have been preparing to make it:
At first, I made a rough drawing.
In June, I bought an antique arch-shape window at the antique shop in Okayama.
And I bought plywood, timber, etc a month ago.

And, I started to make it today.

I made a back board and four pillars.
I temporarily placed the back board in the border, and confirmed its dimension
and balance to the wooden fence.

It will take several weeks to finish it.

Branches of dog wood are becoming red and yellow day by day,
and cherry sage has been bearing a numbers of red flowers.

Under the plum trees, some of the hostas have withered leaves,
and leopard plants are now in full bloom of yellow flowers.

PLANTING TULIP BULBS (チューリップ球根の植え付け)

The time for planting spring-flowering bulbs has come at last.
Hot days had continued, however,
we are now in a cool weather with temperatures of 10 to 20 degrees Celsius.
I already bought bulbs of tulips etc. more than a month ago,
and I planted more than three hundred bulbs in the gardens yesterday.

In the new garden, I planted bulbs of three varieties of tulip around the bluebell bed.
Two wild and miniature tulips, clusiana chrysantha and bakeri Lilac Wonder,
and Lily Flowering Elegant Lady.
I am expecting bluebell and Elegant Lady flower at the same time.

In the park, I found so many brand‐new nest boxes on the tree.
Fifty boxes were put up several days ago in order to increase birds in the park.

There were a number of visitors at the museum.

I bought a copy of the official pictorial record of the exhibition.

The organizers says in the foreword that

'The story of the world's most famous rabbit began with an illustrated letter addressed to a sick little boy.

My Dear Noel,
I don't know what to write to you, so I shall tell you a story about four little rabbits...

Born out of compassion, the blue jacket wearing rabbit protagonist and his story are still beloved today around the world after more than a hundred years.  This exhibition commemorating the 150th anniversary of the author, Beatrix Potter's birth traces the origins of the Peter Rabbit series through a never before seen collection of over two hundred pieces of works and materials consisting of her original art works, sketches, favorite items and more.
Beatrix Potter loved to sketch animals and plants from an early age on.  Visiting the Lake District for summer vacations with her family she developed a lifetime fascination with the amazing richness of the natural environment encountered there.  Looking at her deep love of nature, it is clearly reflected in the world of the Peter Rabbit series as well.  Furthermore, Beatrix not only left us with amazing works, she was also a pioneer of land conservation in an age when it was still hard for women to take on active public roles in society.  She helped protect the Herdwick sheep, a species unique to the Lake District, moreover, she also worked to preserve the beauty of the Lake District's scenery and to leave it to us.
We hope you will also be touched by the universal message radiating from the charming world that Beatrix Potter has woven through her depictions of nature and animals.
Last but no least, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all concerned parties, foremost among them the National Trust for kindly lending these precious works, for their efforts involved in the realization of this exhibition.'

THE POTAGER IN THE MORNING SUNLIGHT

I trimmed box hedge in the kitchen garden last week,
and it looks neat now.
Globe amaranth (Gomphrena globosa) is in full bloom.
The morning sunlight awaken plants in the garden.

Vegetables in the frame are growing well with little pests,
thanks to their metal mesh.

Leaves of asparagus, glove amaranth and potato are brilliant in the sunlight.

Most leaves of espalier apple trees had fallen except young leaves
grew in the autumn.
The triangular foldable net cage is working well.
