庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.
　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

THE LAST GARDENING OF THE YEAR 2017 (今年最後の庭仕事)


It will rain tomorrow, and we did the last gardening of this year.
Asparagus has become yellowish, and I cut it.
Two raised beds were mulched with home-made mature compost. 


明日は雨ですので今日が庭仕事の今年の最後です
アスパラガスの葉が黄色くなってきたので切りました
二つのレイズドベッドには自家製の完熟堆肥でマルチングしました


The leaves of asparagus were heaped in the compost bin. 


アスパラガスの葉は堆肥入れに入れました



Water canna in the bath tub pool was cut too. 
and they were also piled on the compost heap. 



浴槽で育てているカンナも切りました
これもコンポストに入れました

FLOWER AND FRUIT OF FAN-TRAINED KUMQUAT (扇仕立てのキンカンの花と果実)



When we reformed the border of the main garden in late winter of 2016,
I pruned the kumquat (Kinkan), which had grown there for several years,
as a fan, because I thought that it was a attractive way to grow tree fruit,
and took only a small room. 

The kumquat bore a number of tiny pure white flowers in July,
and its fruits have grown large and some are ripening, turning yellow.
This kumquat is a variety with seedless fruits,
and is easy to eat whole.

2016年の冬の終わりに庭のボーダーをリフォームした際に
そこに数年前から育てていたキンカンを扇仕立てに剪定をしました。
扇仕立ては果樹の魅力的な樹形だし、
場所をあまり取らないからでした。

このキンカンが七月に無数の小さな純白の花をつけ、
その果実が大きくなってきて一部は黄色くなって熟してきています。
このキンカンは種なしの品種なので
丸ごと食べやすいのです。

EARLY SNOWDROP FLOWER BRINGS GOOD LUCK (幸運を運ぶ早咲きスノードロップ）


I found a flower of snowdrop last weekend in the main garden, 
and I was delighted because I found the description
 'It was said in lowland Scotland that the finder of a snowdrop
 before the first of January would be in luck all the coming year.' 
I wish all who look at these photos a good luck!



先週末、庭でスノードロップの花を一輪見つけました。
「スコットランドのローランドでは元旦より前にスノードロップを見つけた人は
次の年はとても幸運に恵まれるという言い伝えがある」
という記述をみつけて、大喜びしました。
この写真をみるひとすべてに幸運がくることを祈ります！

DRY FLOWER OF ROSES (バラのドライフラワー)


I often display flowers, mainly roses and sometimes other flowers, in my office. 
Most of them fell their petals, however, some wither before falling.
I dry the latter to make dry flowers,
and display them in a metal can hung on the wall.
The can has been filled with many dry flowers.


オフィスに主にバラ、時には他の花をよく飾ります
たいていは花びらが散りますが、散る前に萎れるものもあります
そういう花はドライフラワーにして、壁にかけたブリキの容器に飾ります
だいぶんたくさんの花でいっぱいになってきています

CHRISTMAS CONCERT & FRIENDSHIP PARTY OF FUKUOKA JAPAN-BRITISH SOCIETY (福岡日英協会クリスマス音楽の夕べ)



The Christmas Concert & Friendship Party of the Fukuoka Japan-British Society was held yesterday night.

We joined the party and enjoyed Christmas musics, delicious food, a raffle and conversation with friends.

RED COLOURED LEAVES (赤く色づく葉)


Leaves of some plants in our garden show red colouring.
There still are many flowers of autumn, such as cosmos, Japanese anemone, lantana, glory bush and some varieties of rose. 
However, winter has come and they'll finish flowering soon. 

庭では植物の葉が赤く色づいています.
いまでもまだ秋の花たち、たとえば
コスモス、シュウメイギク、ランタナ、ノボタン、
それにいくつかの品種のバラも咲いています.
しかし、冬はもう来ていて、それらの花もすぐに終わりを迎えそうです.

ROSES IN DECEMBER (師走のバラ)



The very cold weather has been continuing since late November. 
It was sunny with some clouds today, but temperature was below 5 degrees. 
There are some roses which are still in bloom in our garden. 
It takes longer time for rose buds to bloom because of cold weather, 
and flowers last longer than in mild weather. 
Following pictures show roses in our garden now. 

 11月の終わりからずっととても寒い気候が続いています。
今日はすこし雲はありましたが晴れていましたが、
気温は5度以下でした。
庭ではまだ咲いているバラがあります。
蕾が花開くのには寒さのためより時間がかかります。
そして、花も温かい時期より長く持ちます。
下に続く写真は今の庭のバラたちです。

COLOURFUL DISPLAY IN THE GARDEN(庭の鮮やかな色)



Our garden has been slowly changing into the winter garden.
Some vivid red colour can be found here and there.

庭は冬の庭にゆっくり変わっていて
そこここに鮮やかな赤い色が目立ってきました。

The dogwood had shed its leaves
and now its stems has become vivid red and yellow. (below left)
Its stems were green in summer. (below right)

ドッグウッドはその葉を落として
茎が鮮やかな赤や黄色に変わっています。（写真上の左）
夏の間は茎は緑色です。（写真右）


Christmas holly bears red fruits,
which we uses for making wreaths.

 クリスマスホリー（セイヨウヒイラギ）は赤い実をつけ
それを使ってリースを作りました。


In the shade garden (beside the path between the main garden and the potager),
arisaema fruits has ripened
and some of the fruits has already eaten by some wildlife (birds?).

シェードガーデン（メインガーデンとポタジェをつなぐ園路の横）には
テンナンショウ（ムサシアブミ）の実が色づいて
取りか何かに一部は食べられています。
