Chinese quince or karin is not eaten raw, but is dipped in alcohol or honey and used to make quince wine or quince syrup. It contains ingredients that are good for the throat, and in cold winters it is said to be good for preventing colds if drunk warm.
There is a Chinese quince tree in the Bluebell garden that bears fruit every year. This year there are not many fruits, but they have not been damaged by typhoons and are ripening yellow. Some of the fruits fall off naturally, so we harvest them little by little.

This year we decided to soak them in honey and make quince syrup.
I had some quince syrup left over from last year, so I warmed it up and drank it. It is very sweet, sour and has a mellow aroma.
