Snowflake is one of the most typical spring-flowering bulb plants. Its very pretty little flowers are very popular. It is almost disease and pest-free and easy to grow both in the ground and in pots. It bloomed beautifully this year, a little later than usual.
スノーフレークは春咲きの代表的な球根植物の一つです。とても可愛らしい小花は人気があります。病害虫もほとんどなくて、地植えでも鉢植えでも育てやすい花です。例年より少し遅れて今年もきれいに咲きました。
On the slope between the main garden and the potager there used to be a large wild cherry tree with white flowers. It used to bloom very beautifully every year, but died a few years ago.
This wild cherry tree was dropping a lot of berries onto the potager below. And there were small seedlings growing here and there in the raised beds. I grew them in pots and planted one of them next to the lower entrance to the garden a few years ago.
And this year it produced a lot of flowers. After 20 years, it will grow into a magnificent wild cherry tree with magnificent flowers.
メインガーデンとポタジェの間の斜面にはかつて、白い花をつける大きな山桜の木がありました。毎年とても美しく咲いていましたが、数年前に枯れてしまいました。
この山桜はたくさんの実を下のポタジェに落としていました。そしてレイズドベッドのあちこちに実生の小さな苗が育っていました。それを鉢植えにして育てて、庭の下の入り口の横に植え付けたのが数年前です。
そして今年、たくさんの花をつけました。親木に似た白い花です。20年も経てば、立派な山桜に木に成長して見事な花を咲かせてくれるでしょう。
Plum flowers are blooming at the far left of the main garden. The pure white flowers and yellow-green leaves are very beautiful together. The variety is called Santa Rosa and the reddish-purple fruits are very sweet and sour. We are looking forward to another year of fruit.
メインガーデン左奥でスモモの花が咲いています。真っ白の花と黄緑の葉が一緒に出てとてもきれいです。サンタローザという品種で、赤紫の実はとても甘酸っぱくておいしいです。今年も実がなるのが楽しみです。
The tête-à-tête is a small yellow daffodil with very pretty flowers. I have been growing them in pots for a long time. It is one of the flowers that make me realise that spring has arrived. And the muscari, another potted bulb plant, has beautiful blue-coloured flowers. Both are regulars in our garden in early spring.
テータテートは小さな黄色の水仙で、とても可愛らしい花です。ずっと鉢で育てています。春が来たと実感する花の一つです。そして、もう一つの鉢植えの球根植物のムスカリは、きれいな青い色の花を咲かせます。二つとも早春の我が家の庭の常連です。
Yellow dust has been flying in from mainland China since yesterday, making the sky a little yellow and hazy. The sunrise is not so dazzling because of this. I hope it will soon go away to the east on the westerly wind.

The Hardenbergia flowered about a month later than usual. We had different coloured varieties growing on either side of the arbour seat, but the pink variety on the right died last summer.
例年より1か月ほど遅れてハーデンベルギアが開花しました。屋根付きベンチの左右に色違いの品種を育てていましたが、昨年の夏に右側のピンクの品種が枯れてしまいました。今年は少し寂しい感じです。
The camellia trees, which were hidden and difficult to see by the white wooden fence, can now be seen clearly with the removal of the fence.
Two types of camellia are now in flower.
The larger tree is a variety called the ‘ Scented Camellia’, which we bought and planted 20 years ago, and which produces many flowers every year.
The smaller tree is a ‘Maiden Camellia’, which we bought a seedling 12 years ago, and it has beautiful pink pretty flowers.
白い木製フェンスで隠れて見えにくかった椿の木が、フェンスの撤去でよく見えるようになりました。２種類の椿があり、今花が咲いています。
大きな方の木は20年前に「匂い椿」という品種の苗を買って植えたもので、毎年たくさんの花をつけます。
小さな方の木は12年前に苗を買った「乙女椿」で美しいピンクの可愛らしい花が特徴です。
