Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

WHITE GARDEN FLOWERS (ホワイトガーデンの花)

There is a white flower area in the main garden.

Rosa 'Iceberg' and 'Snow Goose' are the leading players,
and campanula punctata and lily (Lilium longiflorum) are supporting players.
Other plants sometimes join the play.
The lily is stunning with campanula now.

メインガーデンの一角に白い花のコーナーがあります
バラのアイスバーグとスノーグースが主役で
ホタルブクロとテッポウユリが脇役です.
ほかの植物も時々参加します.
今は、ユリがホタルブクロと一緒でとても綺麗です.

PRUNING APPLE AND ROSA BANKSIAE (リンゴとモッコウバラの剪定)

Espalier apple grows shoots on the branches and they make a path narrower.
So, I pruned some new shoots.

垣根仕立てのリンゴが枝から新しい枝葉を伸ばして、通路が狭くなっています.
そこで、新しい枝を剪定しました.

Then I pruned Rosa banksiae beneath the gazebo.

It has grown too much, therefore, it was pruned strongly.

次に、ガゼボの下のモッコウバラの剪定です.
大きく育ちすぎたので、強剪定です.

APPLE FRUITS GROW IN THE POTAGER (リンゴが育つポタジェ)

Foxglove is still flowering in the potager.

ジギタリスがまだポタジェでは咲いています.

Espalier apple, as well as apple on the arch, bears lots of young fruits.
We harvested a number of apples the autumn before last,
however, there was few fruit last season.
So, we are looking forward to good harvest this autumn.

アーチのリンゴや垣根仕立てのリンゴには、小さなリンゴの実がついています.
おととしの秋にはたくさんのリンゴを収穫しましたが、
昨年はほとんどなりませんでした.
なので、今年の秋の豊作が楽しみです.

THE SEASON IS CHANGING (季節は移る)

The season is changing from refreshing early summer to humid rainy season.
Roses are still flowering,
some of them is in full bloom, others have almost finished.
Beautiful dark blue flower of Salvia guraranitica has started to flower
in the blue border, with catmint and nigella.
In the central raised bed, Mexican bush sage looks stunning.
You can look at all of them on YouTube movie.

爽やかな初夏から蒸し蒸しする梅雨へと季節は移りつつあります.
まだバラは咲いていて、
満開のものもあれば、ほとんど終わったものもあります.
青い花の花壇ではサルビアガラニチカの濃いブルーの花が
キャットミントやニゲラと一緒に咲き始めています.
中央の花壇ではアメジストがきれいです.
ユーチューブの動画でこれらの花がみんな見られます.
