TRIMMING BOX HEADGE (ツゲの生垣の剪定)

Lavender in the raised beds in the potager died this season. 

It was a very hot and humid summer after the rainy season with much more rain than usual.  These raised beds were surrounded with box hedge that is about two feet high. The hedge might make the beds stuffy and weeken lavender. 

To make the raised beds more airy, we had started to trim last Saturday. 

Using 40cm long wood as a cutting guide, we trimmed the triangular hedge at a height of 40cm. 

The hedge became much easier to stride over. 

We are going to trim other part of box hedge at 50cm high

because raised beds in it is much higher than those in the triangle part. 

ポタジェの花壇のラベンダーが今年枯れました.

いつもより降水量の多い梅雨のあとの高温多湿の夏でした.

ここの花壇は廻りを高さ60センチほどのセイヨウツゲの生垣で囲まれているため、

風通しが悪くてラベンダーを弱らせたのかもしれません.

ここの花壇を風通し良くするために、先週土曜から剪定を始めました.

40センチの木切れを剪定のガイドにして、生垣を40センチの高さに切り詰めました.

これで生垣もまたぎやすくなりました.

生垣の他の部分は、三角形の部分より花壇の高さが少し高いので、

高さ50センチにしようと思っています.

Asparagus has grown new shoots in these three weeks after the typhoon. 

(We cut it shot before the typhoon came.)

アスパラガスは台風のあと3週間で新しい枝を出しています.

（台風が来る前に短く刈っていました）

We planted two young broccoli in a triangle raised bed, 

and covered it with a self-made foldable net cage. 

ブロッコリーの苗を２つ三角形のレイズドベッドに植え付けて、

自作の折りたたみ式防虫ケージをかぶせました.

Young plants of leaf lettuce were also planted in the dahlia bed. 

ダリアの花壇にリーフレタスの苗も植えました.

Aster has started to flower in the border.

ボーダー花壇のアスターが咲き始めています.
