Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

PRUNING WISTERIA (フジの剪定)

The wisteria on the brick wall has flowered for the first time this spring. And many new branches are growing. The wisteria was pruned to encourage flower buds for next spring. There are three pruning stages: the new branches are cut down to 60 cm at this time of year. Then in August, further pruning to 10 cm is carried out, and finally, in early spring, the flowering buds are checked and pruned again if necessary.

It was a very hot day, with a maximum temperature of 35°C, but the sun was shifting to the west, so I was able to work in almost no direct sunlight. Pruned branches and leaves were placed in compost bins.

レンガ塀の上の藤は今春初めて花を咲かせました. そしてたくさんの新しい枝を伸ばしています. 来春の花芽をつけさせるために、剪定を行いました. 剪定は3段階あり、この時期に新しい枝を60センチほどに切り詰めます. そして8月に10センチほどに更に切り、最後は早春に花芽を確認して必要ならまた剪定します.

最高気温が35℃もある猛暑日でしたが、日が西に傾いてきたのでほとんど直射日光を浴びずに作業はできました. 剪定した枝葉はコンポスト容器に入れました.
