Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

CYCLAMEN AND OXALIS IN THE PEONY BED (芍薬花壇のシクラメンとオキザリス)

The peony bed is empty in winter, so I have planted hardy cyclamen and winter-flowering oxalis. Both are brightly coloured and brighten up the garden.

芍薬・牡丹の花壇では冬は何もなくなるので、ガーデンシクラメンと冬咲のオキザリスを植えています. どちらも鮮やかな色で、庭を明るくしてくれます.

Hardy cyclamen continues to flower in cold winters. In summer the above-ground part of the plant dies back and goes dormant, but it can also die in severe heat.

ガーデンシクラメンは耐寒性が強く、寒い冬も咲き続けてくれます. 夏は地上部が枯れて休眠しますが、厳しい暑さで枯れてしまうこともあります.

The winter-flowering oxalis 'Momo-no-kagayaki (Peach Splendour)' is a bulbous plant, but its bulbs are very small, around 4-5 mm. They emerge in autumn and die back in early summer. The bright pink flowers, which bloom only on sunny days, brighten up the garden.

冬咲のオキザリスの「モモの輝き」は球根植物ですが、その球根は4-5mm程度とごく小さいのが特徴です. 秋に目を出して、初夏には枯れます. 太陽が当たる晴れた日だけに咲く鮮やかなピンク色の花は庭をパット明るくします.
