Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

HONEY-SOAKED QUINCE (カリンの蜂蜜漬け)

The last two fruits on the quince tree, which lost most of its fruit in a typhoon in September, had turned yellow. The two fruits were harvested.

九月に台風で大半の実を落としたカリンの木に、最後に実が2個ついて黄色く色づいていました. その二つの実を収穫しました.

Quince fruits are cut into small pieces and dipped in honey together with the seeds, and the quince constituents will dissolve into the honey, making it a throat remedy. After about a month, the fruits and seeds are removed and the remaining honey is diluted with hot water and drunk. The drink is sweet and sour, tasty and warming.

カリンは実を小さく切って種も一緒に蜂蜜につけると、カリンの成分が溶け出して喉の薬になります. 一か月ほどで実と種を取り出し、あとの蜂蜜をお湯で薄めて飲みます. 甘酸っぱくておいしくて温まる飲み物です.
