2021 NURSERY CALENDAR (来年のナーセリーカレンダー)

  

We visited local nurseries last weekend.  There was some Christmas decorations in a shop.  We bought some young plants as well as gardening goods.  We got a 2021 calendar as a free gift, in which photos of our garden were printed.

先週末に近くのナーセリーに行きました. 一つの店にはクリスマスの飾りをしてありました. 園芸用品と苗を買いました. 私たちの庭が載った来年のカレンダーを景品でいただきました.

Then we went to another nursery and bought young plants, too. 

もう一か所のナーセリーでも苗を買いました.

It is exciting to imagine that these young plants grow and bear beautiful flowers in our garden. 

苗たちが育って美しい花を庭で咲かせてくれるのを想像するとドキドキします.

OUR POTAGER IN DECEMBER (師走のポタジェ)

 

Warmer days continued last week, and some flowers were in bloom in the potager. Foxglove was unusual in December.　Leaves of potato were still green in raised beds and in frames.  Sprouting broccoli grows well in a triangular raised bed. 

先週は暖かい日が続いて、ポタジェでは少し花も咲いていました.　ジギタリスは12月には季節外れです. レイズドベッドとフレームのジャガイモの葉はまだ緑色、ブロッコリーは三角のレイズドベッドでよく育っています.

VIVID COLOURS OF DOGWOOD STEMS (ミズキの色鮮やかな茎)

 

Colours of stems of red and yellow barked dogwood have become more vivid these days.  Their vivid colours continue until spring, and it is a beautiful focal point in winter. 

サンゴミズキと黄金ミズキの茎の色がとても鮮やかになりました. この鮮やかな色は春まで続き、冬の美しい見どころです.

ROSES IN A COLD WIND (寒風の中のバラ)

 

Snow Goose and Geoff Hamilton are in bloom in a cold wind. The flowers are shaken by the wind.  Some flowers of Snow Goose look more yellowish than those in summer. 

スノーグースとジェフハミルトンが冷たい風の中で咲いています. 花は風に揺れています. スノーグースの花は夏の花より黄色っぽいものも咲いています.

SNOWDROPS IN DECEMBER (ビックリ、スノードロップ開花)

 

We made a raised bed for snowdrop and white muscari in the bluebell garden, and planted snowdrop bulbs in September.   I once have heard a tradition of Scotland that the finder of a snowdrop before the first of January would be in luck all the coming year.  Therefore, I delighted to find 'four' snowdrop flowers early in December. 

九月にブルーベルの庭にスノードロップと白のムスカリのためのレイズドベッド（花壇）を作り、スノードロップの球根を植えました. スコットランドではお正月の前にスノードロップの花をみつけた人は、一年間ずっと幸運に恵まれるという言い伝えがあると聞いたことがあります。それで、十二月の早い時期に4つもスノードロップの花を見つけて、びっくりしてうれしくなりました.

POTTING UP SEEDLINGS OF ECHIUM CANDICANS (エキウムカンディカンスの実生苗の鉢上げ)

 

Echium candicans is a perennial plant with wonderful flower spikes.  We grow it in the blue border beside the arbour seat for several years.  It showed superb display last April and bore seedheads with numerous seeds. 

エキウムカンディカンスは素晴らしい花穂をつける多年草です.  ブルーのボーダー花壇の屋根付きベンチの横でここ数年育てています. 今年の四月には壮麗な姿を見せてくれ、そのあと花柄にたくさんの種をつけました.

Selfsown seedlings had started to grow in October, and I potted up some of them.

こぼれ種から十月に苗が育ってきて、いくつか鉢上げしました. 

And more seedlings has appeared there again and I potted them up again. 

そして更にまた苗が育ってきているので、鉢上げしました. 

There are about twenty seedlings of Echium candicans in pots now.  I’m planning to share the seedlings among gardening friends and visitors when we open our garden to the public. 

これで苗がおよそ20個ほどになりました.  ガーデニングの友人やオープンガーデンでいらっしゃる方たちにお分けしようと思っています.
