I went to the old local shrine with my wife and son.
There were only a few people because it was early in the morning.
We performed nirei nihakushu ichirei
(bowing twice, clapping hands twice, and bowing again)
according to the tradition of Shinto shrine.

We got talismans for a kamidana (a miniature shinto altar)
and charms for each of our family.

At noon, we ate Osechi-Ryori (special dishes prepared for the New Year)
at the gazebo in our garden.
It's sunny and warm; a quite unusual weather on the new year's day.
