We've welcomed two varieties of shrub rose in our garden.
Bare root plants were delivered a couple of days ago from David Austin Roses Japan.
Bare root plants were delivered a couple of days ago from David Austin Roses Japan.
The first one is 'Geoff Hamilton'.
Warm, soft pink rosettes, and light old rose fragrance.
It was named after the late Geoff Hamilton.
(I really like him, as you know, and translated his book
'The Ornamental Kitchen Garden' in Japanese and you can read a part of the book here)
We planted it between the bench and iron rose arbour.

The other one 'Young Lycidas' was planted in the central flower bed.
This variety is characterized by magnificent, purple-magenta blooms of classic Old Rose beauty, and lovely fragrance combining tea and old rose.
Marple desperately wanted to plant it in our garden.
Dear Poirot
ReplyDeleteI have Rose 'Geoff Hamilton' in my garden and it is a strong grower with very few problems. However, the flowers do not like the rain (which is a bit of an issue here in the UK) and they stay in a ball and go soggy. Apart from that, it's a lovely rose.
Your other rose looks beautiful - I am not surprised that Marple wanted it in your garden.
I hope they both do well for you.
Best wishes
Ellie
Dear Ellie
DeleteI'm looking forward to their flowers in spring.
