BLUEBERRY ARE GETTING BIGGER (ブルーベリーの実が大きくなってきた)

 

I've been growing blueberries for more than 15 years now, but last year the bumblebees didn't come to the garden at all, so the yield was about 20% of the previous year. 

In addition, I pruned about half of the branches that were too high last year, so I was prepared for a further decrease in yield this year.

But this spring, many bumblebees came again to pollinate the flowers, and the branches that I left uncut are now bearing a lot of fruit.

We are growing four varieties, all of which are of the rabbit eye type. 

We usually start harvesting in July, but this year the flowers bloomed early, so the harvest may be a little earlier. We will be able to make jam again. 

ブルーベリーは育て始めて15年以上になりますが、昨年はハナバチがまったく庭に来なかったため、収量は例年の2割ほどでした. 

さらに、昨年は高くなりすぎた枝のうち凡そ半分を短く剪定したこともあり、今年はさらに収量が減少することは覚悟していました.

でも、この春はふたたびハナバチたちがたくさんやってきてくれて、花の受粉をしてくれたおかげで、切らずに残した枝にはたわわに実がついています.

栽培しているのは大まかに4品種で、いずれもラビットアイ系です. 

収穫は例年ですと7月に入ってからですが、今年は開花も早かったことから、少し収穫が早まるかもしれません. またジャムづくりができそうです.
