Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

THE FIRST HARVEST OF BLUEBERRIES (ブルーベリーの初収穫)

Blueberries ripen in mid-summer, and we harvest the ripe berries every weekend to make jam, which is our summer routine every year. Last spring, the bumblebees didn't come at all, and pollination didn't go well, so last summer's harvest was about a quarter of what it should have been. I pruned about half of the branches short last fall because the tree had grown too tall. Fortunately bees came, but I think the yield is about the same as last year.

The first harvest was about 1.3 kilograms, enough for seven jam jars.

ブルーベリーは真夏に果実が熟し、毎週末にその熟した実を収穫してジャムにするのが毎年の夏の日課です。昨年の春はハナバチがまったく来てくれず、受粉がうまくいかなかったために昨年の夏の収穫量は四分の一ほどでした。樹高が高くなりすぎたのもあり、昨年の秋に半分ぐらいの枝を短く剪定したので、ハナバチは来てくれましたが、収量は昨年並みぐらいかと思います。

初回の収穫量は1.3キロ程度で、ジャム瓶に7本分ほどジャムができました。
