MOMENTOUS NEWS (大ニュース；庭がBBCで紹介されました)

 

Our garden was featured on the BBC gardening programme 'Gardeners' World' yesterday night.  

A video we had posted last year about how to propagate our bluebell bulbs was adopted and featured.

A video I had posted the year before last was introduced on the programme's social media (Facebook and Twitter) last year, and my wish was fulfilled when it was introduced on the programme's main broadcast last night. 

うちの庭が英国BBC放送の園芸番組「ガーデナーズ・ワールド」で昨晩放映されました. 

私たちのブルーベルの球根の増やし方について、昨年投稿していた動画が採用されて、紹介されたのです.  

一昨年に投稿していた動画が昨年、番組のSNS（フェイスブックとツイッター）で紹介されましたが、昨晩番組の本放送で紹介されて念願が叶いました.

POTAGER IN LATE SPRING (春の終わりのポタジェ)

 

The apple blossom is over, the boxwoods are fresh and green, and soon early summer will arrive at the Potager with roses and foxgloves in full bloom. 

The boxwoods have become a little overgrown, making the pathways narrower and more difficult to walk through, so they are being pruned now.

The California poppies are in full bloom and the asparagus are growing large. 

The foxgloves are starting to bloom and it's the start of the glorious season!

リンゴの花も終わり、ボックスウッドの新緑が茂って、間もなくバラやジギタリスが咲き乱れる初夏がポタジェにやってきます. 

ボックスウッドがちょっと茂りすぎて通路がより狭くなり、歩きにくくなっているので、剪定中です。

カリフォルニアポピー（ハナビシソウ）は満開になり、アスパラガスが大きく育ってきています. 

ジギタリスも咲き始め、輝く季節の始まりです！

JASMINE AND BORAGE BY THE SMALL FOUNTAIN (小さな噴水のそばのジャスミンとボリジ)

 

Behind the small fountain, the Jasminum polyanthum continues to bloom. A very strong fragrance wafts around. The flowers and fragrance will be enjoyed for some time to come. 

In front of the fountain, on both sides, the borage has grown large and has many flowers. The bumblebees love the borage and are constantly flitting from flower to flower. 

Ladybirds also come here to feed. 

小さな噴水の後ろにはハゴロモジャスミンが咲き続けています. とても強い芳香が周りに漂っています. もうしばらく花と香りが楽しめそうです. 

噴水の手前には両側にボリジが大きく育って、たくさんの花を咲かせています. ハナバチたちはボリジも大好きで、ずっと花から花へ飛び交っています. 

テントウムシもやってきて餌をさがしています.

RED LANTERNS OF TRAILING ABUTILON (ウキツリボクの赤いランタン)

 

Trailing abutilon (Abutilon megapotamicum) is native to Brazil. Bright red and yellow flowers look like suspended lanterns. It is evergreen and red lanterns can be seen all year round in our region. 

ウキツリボクはブラジル原産です. 鮮やかな赤と黄色の花は釣り下がったランタンのように見えます. 私たちの地方では常緑で、一年中赤いランタンをみることができます. 

'Red lantern' is calyx and petals are yellow with dark red stamens.
赤いランタンはがくで、花びらは黄色、そしてしべは暗赤色です.

BUMBLEBEES LOVE FLOWERS OF ECHIUM CANDICANS (ハナバチたちはエキウムカンディカンスの花がお好き)

The flowers of the Echium candicans growing here and there in our gardens started to bloom about a week ago. Numerous small blue-purple flowers in spindle-shaped spikes bloom for two or three weeks, and the spikes grow in size accordingly. 

庭のあちこちで育てているエキウムカンディカンスの花は一週間ほど前から咲き始めました. 紡錘形の花穂に無数の青紫の小花が咲いて、２、３週間咲き続けて、花穂もそれに伴って大きくなります.

On a sunny day, bees can be seen all the time sucking nectar from the flowers. Apart from honeybees, bumblebees such as Xylocopa appendiculata and Bombus ignitus are frequent visitors. 

お天気のよい日には、ハナバチたちがずっと花の蜜を吸って花から花へ忙しく飛び回ります. ミツバチの他に、クマバチやクロマルハナバチなどのハナバチ類が良く来ています. 

It is unusual to have two flower spikes on one branch.
一つの枝に2本の花穂がつくのは珍しいです

BLUEBELL GARDEN WITH SUNLIGHT SHINING THROUGH THE TREES (木漏れ日のブルーベルガーデン)

 

The English bluebells are in full bloom in the bluebell garden. In the daytime on a sunny day, the flowers are lit up by the sunlight filtering through the branches and leaves of the wild cherry, Japanese apricot and pear trees, making them look even more beautiful. 

ブルーベルの庭ではイングリッシュブルーベルの花が満開です. 晴れた日の昼間は山桜や梅、洋ナシなどの枝葉からの木漏れ日で花が照らされて、一層美しく見えます.

HEART-SHAPED APPLE BRANCHES WITH FLOWERS (ハート形のリンゴの枝に花が咲きました)

 

The Potager's espalier apple trees have two varieties, planted alternately. The early-flowering 'Alps Otome' has finished flowering, but the late-flowering 'Fuji' is now in bloom. 

The apple variety with heart- or lollipop-shaped branches is Fuji, and these are flowering. 

Bumblebees come here to pollinate the flowers. 

ポタジェのエスパリエ仕立てのリンゴの木には2品種あって、交互に植えています. 早咲きの「アルプス乙女」の花は終わりましたが、遅咲きの「フジ」が今咲いています. 

枝をハート形やロリポップ仕立てにしているリンゴの品種はフジで、それらの仕立ての枝に花が咲いています. 

ここにもハナバチが来て受粉をしてくれています.
