Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

JACARANDA HAS STARTED TO BLOOM IN THE BLUE BORDER (青の花壇のジャカランダ開花)

Jacaranda is native to Central and South America, and in its dry climate of origin it flowers before the leaves come out, whereas in Japan, due to the rainy climate, it seems to flower after the leaves come out. The jacaranda in our garden starts to leaf out at the end of April and flowers at this time of year when it has many leaves. It is a dwarf variety called “Nichinan no Megumi”, which means that it flowers as a shrub. We planted a small seedling two years ago in February, it flowered a little last June and this year it has more flowers. It does not have the spectacular flowers of the larger Jacaranda trees, but it does have unusual and beautiful flowers. And its foliage is very beautiful.

中南米原産で、乾燥した気候の原産地では葉が出る前に花が咲きますが、日本では雨が多い気候のため葉が出た後に花が咲くようです。私たちの庭のジャカランダは4月の下旬に葉が出てきて、たくさん葉が茂ったこの時期に花をつけます。「日南のめぐみ」という矮性の品種のため、低木で花をつけます。一昨年の2月に小さな苗を植え付けましたが、去年の六月にちょっとだけ花が咲き、今年は花数が増えました。大木になるジャカランダの花の華やかさはありませんが、めずらしくて美しい花を楽しむことはできます。そして、その葉がとてもきれいです。
