Allium christophii has been my favorite since I first looked it at the Sissinghurst Castle in Kent.
Hundreds of tiny, metallic blue-purple star shaped florets make a large spherical flower. Sometimes called the 'Star of Persia' because it is a native of Turkey and Iran.

I had been looking for the bulbs of the allium, and two years ago I got a dozen of bulbs and planted. They bloomed splendidly in 2013 and 2014.

Dried flower heads are quite ornamental in the garden as well as in a vase. They last for years.
