Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

PRUNING BEAR TOPIARY (クマのトピアリーの剪定)

The bear topiary I started making last autumn has been pruned back to shape as it has grown so many new shoots that its shape is becoming indistinct.

Working in the garden in the summer is a high risk of heat stroke, so last year I started using a new air-conditioned suit with four fans on the back to prevent heat stroke.

The pruning took about half an hour using small pruning shears. I think it looks a bit bearish when I put shells instead of eyes. What do you think?

去年の秋に作り始めたクマのトピアリーが、新芽がたくさん伸びて形が不明瞭になってきているので剪定をして形を整えました。

夏の庭作業は熱中症の危険が高いため、去年からは背中に4個のファンがついた新しい空調服を使って熱中症を予防しています。

剪定には小さな剪定ばさみを使って30分ほどで終わりました。目の代わりに貝殻を置くと少しクマにみえるような気がしますが、いかがでしょうか？
