Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

MOLE CONTROL WITH JUICY FRUIT GUM (フルーツガムでモグラ退治)

As the summer heat begins to ease, the moles have become more active. Numerous molehills have appeared in the bluebell garden. When rain falls on them, the grains of red earth they've dug up harden, killing any plants nearby. There aren't many effective control methods, but I tried again the bubble gum method I'd used once before. I remove the soil from the molehill to find the hole, then toss in some bubble gum. I then cover the hole again. That is all there is to it. Moles seem to like the smell of bubble gum and apparently eat it, causing them stomach upset. Will it actually work?

夏の暑さが和らいできたら、モグラの活動が活発になってきました。ブルーベルの庭ではたくさんモグラ塚ができています。そこに雨が降ると、掘り出した赤土の粒が固まってしまい、そこにある植物を枯らしたりします。なかなか有効な駆除策がないのですが、以前一度やったことがあるフーセンガムを使った駆除をまた試してみました。モグラ塚の土を取り除いて穴を見つけ、そこにフルーツガムを放り込みます。そしてまた穴を塞ぐのです。やることはそれだけです。モグラはフルーツガムの香りが好きらしく、食べてお腹を壊すようです。果たして効果は出るでしょうか？
