MAKING CENTRAL FLOWER BEDS IN 2011 (中央の花壇づくり)

When we replanned our garden four years ago, there was a Benthamidia japonica tree at the center of the garden.  We decided to make flower beds around it and designed the shape of beds.  In order to make them informal, I made many curvilinear designs and discussed with my wife.  We finally adopted the design motif of a leaf for the central flower bed.

Using bricks, I drew the line of flower beds on the lawn around the Benthamidia japonica.

In summer 2011

After we confirmed the design on the spot, I began to make the beds with antiqued bricks.

September 2011

To celebrate the completion of the central bed, a little great accordionist came and play musics with her father.

October 2011

Someone said that this looks like a fish with dorsal and ventral fins.  

Another flower bed was made for peonies.  It was supposed to link the formal patio in front of the brick wall and the informal leaf-shaped flower bed, therefore, it had straight lines and a curved line.  The bricks were used vertically to make it different from the central bed.

November 2011

In the central bed, we planted shrubs, perennials and annuals.

And peonies including herbaceous and tree peony were planted in the peony bed.
