Every autumn I visit a nearby riding club and get horse manure. The horse manure is piled up in a big pile in the field, from where we shovel it into bags and drive it to our house. It is then put into a compost bin at the back of the garden.
As the horse manure is immature, we mix it with prunings, weeded grass and vegetable scraps from the garden to make compost. The compost bin is divided into three compartments: horse manure on the left, compost in the middle and on the right, but now the middle compartment is filled with mature compost and the right compartment is filled with plant waste from the garden and kitchen.
