The Japanese name 'Hototogisu' comes from the resemblance of the spots on the petals to the spots on the breast of a bird called the Hototogisu (The lesser cuckoo).
The colour of the flowers appears more reddish in the afternoon sun, but more purple in the shade.
A bumblebee came to the flower to suck the nectar.
ホトトギスという花は、その花びらにある斑点が、ホトトギスと言う鳥の胸の斑点と似ているということで名前がついています.
花の色は午後の日差しで赤みが強く見えますが、日陰では紫の色調が強くなります.
ハナバチがきて、花の中にもぐりこんで蜜を吸っていました.
