Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

COMPOST BIN ROTATION (堆肥容器の区画の入れ替え)

At the far end of the bluebell garden, we have installed a compost bin. A large wild cherry tree stands to the south, meaning it receives no sunlight except in winter.

This compost bin has three compartments. The leftmost compartment previously held horse manure obtained from the riding club, but now serves as a tool store. The middle and right compartments are used for composting.

The compost in the middle compartment had matured, so we took it out. The compost filled six 20-litre bags of commercial potting soil. (It was later transferred to a rotating compost bin. It will be used in the potager or for mulching roses.) The now-empty central compartment will be refilled with fresh branches and leaves. The right-hand compartment will not receive any new material, in order to allow the existing contents to mature.

ブルーベルの庭の一番奥にコンポスト容器を設置しています。大きな山桜が南側にあって、冬を除いて日は当たりません。

このコンポスト容器には3つの区画があり、一番左の区画は以前は乗馬クラブからもらってくる馬糞をいれていましたが、今は道具入れにしています。真ん中の区画と右の区画を堆肥作りに使っています。

中央の区画では堆肥が熟成したので、取りだし作業をしました。市販培養土の20リットル袋に６杯分ありました。（回転式のコンポスト容器にあとで移しました。ポタジェで使ったり、バラのマルチングにしたりします。）空になった中央の区画はこれから新たに枝葉などを入れていきます。右の区画はこれから熟成させるために新たには材料を入れないようにします。
