Mube (Stauntonia hexaphylla) is an evergreen climbing plant commonly found in the wild mountains of East Asia, including Japan. Separate male and female flowers bloom in spring, with the fruit ripening to a red colour in autumn. Though closely related to Akebia, and bearing a similar appearance, its fruit does not split open naturally to expose its contents, unlike Akebi. However, like Akebi, the sweet, jelly-like pulp surrounding the seeds is edible.

When you split open the flesh and look inside, you'll find numerous seeds encased in a translucent jelly |
