Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

APPLE IN A HEART (ハートにリンゴ)

The potager garden is surrounded on two sides of the triangle by espalier apples. It is planted alternating between apple Fuji and Alpusu-otome. They flower every April, but do not produce many fruits. The hot day/night climate here is not suitable for growing apples: the leaves start to be diseased from June, and many leaves fall off in August. We have tried various chemicals, but without success. The fruit does not grow very large but ripens red in September and is edible. The taste is good. This year the Fuji produced a little more fruit. The Alpusu-otome also bears fruit, although not a lot. In previous years when there were many, there were more than 200. The apple branches are shaped like hearts and lollipops. This year there is one fruit in the heart-shaped branch. It is a small fruit, but it is lovely.

ポタジェガーデンは三角形の2辺をエスパリエ仕立てのリンゴで囲っています。リンゴのフジとアルプス乙女を交互に植えています。毎年4月に花は咲きますが、実はたくさんはつきません。当地の昼夜の高温の気候はリンゴの栽培には向いていないようです。6月ごろから葉に病気が出だして、8月には多くの葉が散ってしまいます。いろいろ薬剤も試してみましたが、うまくいきませんでした。実があまり大きくはなりませんが9月には赤く熟して食べられます。味は良いです。今年はフジが少し多く実をつけました。アルプス乙女もたくさんではありませんが実がついています。以前たくさんついた年には200個以上つきました。リンゴの枝でハート形やロリポップ形を作っています。今年はハート形の枝の中に1個実がついています。小さな実ですが可愛らしいです。
