Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

PRUNING MUBE VINES (ムベの剪定)

Mube (Stauntonia hexaphylla) is an evergreen climbing plant that grows wild in the mountains and fields. It produces beautiful flowers in spring and edible fruit resembling akebi in autumn. I often saw it when I was younger, walking in the hills. Now I train it up an arch at the entrance to the bluebell garden. When pruning the vine, I remove the leaves too, as they obscure the view of the vine. I cut off dead branches, thin branches, and overgrown shoots. It took longer than I expected, nearly two hours.

ムベ（トキワアケビ）は常緑性のつる植物で、野山に自生しています。春に美しい花を咲かせ、秋にはアケビに似た実をつけ、食べられます。山歩きをしていた若い頃によく見かけていました。今はブルーベルの庭の入り口のアーチに誘引して育てています。ツルの剪定をする際に葉があるとツルが良く見えないので、葉もとってしまっています。枯れた枝、細い枝、徒長した枝などを切っています。思ったより時間がかかって、2時間近くかかりました。
