At the entrance to our garden, Saxifraga stolonifera is now in bloom. Flowers have distinctive pointed petals and bright yellow ovary. It looks like heuchera, because they belong to the same family Saxifragaceae.
Its Japanese name is Yuki-no-shita which means 'under the snow'. Its leaves are edible, usually cooked in tempura.
