This is the first time rose mallow (Hibiscus syriacus) has been featured on this blog.
A few years ago I found this small tree growing naturally between two camellia trees behind the white wooden fence. I thought it looked vaguely like a rose mallow tree, so I kept an eye on it without cutting it down. Then, around the year before last, it started to produce white flowers. They have five pure white petals and yellow stamens. The flowers are very neat and refreshing.
This year it has been flowering since July. The maximum height is said to be around 3 metres, so I'm thinking of keeping an eye on it and not pruning it.
