Lycoris ('Higan-bana' in Japanese) is a bulb plant that blooms when the seasons change from summer to autumn, and the red variety is commonly planted around paddy fields in mountain villages. The white variety has very beautiful flowers with pale cream or yellowish petals and slightly pink stamens.
Leaves emerge shortly after flowering, with narrow, sword-shaped leaves throughout the winter, which die back and go dormant in early summer. One of the most typical autumn flowers.
リコリス（彼岸花）は夏から秋へ季節が変わるころに咲く球根植物で、一般には赤い色の品種がよく山里の水田の廻りなどに植えられています. この白い品種は、淡いクリーム色や黄色みを帯びた花びらで、おしべは少しピンクがかっていて、とても綺麗な花です.
花が終わって間もなく葉が出てきて、冬の間は剣状の細い葉を茂らせ、初夏には枯れて休眠に入ります. 秋を感じさせる代表的な花のひとつです.
