I found many flowers on the Christmas holly in our garden. The trees are getting bigger and bigger and produces red berries in autumn, which are used to make Christmas decorations. If you look closely, you can see that it has four petals and four stamens. The flowers are very small and the colour is subdued, but they are lovely.
庭のセイヨウヒイラギ（クリスマスホリー）にたくさん花が咲いているのを見つけました. 木がだんだん大きくなってきて、秋に赤くなる実をつけて、クリスマス飾りの材料になります. よく見ると花弁は4枚、おしべも4個あるようです. とても小さな花で、色は地味ですが、可愛らしいですね.

Bumblebees have come! ハナバチ君がやってきた
I was curious about the lack of spines on the leaves of our holly, and I found out why when I read an article by National Geographic magazine entitled 'Hollies Get Prickly for a Reason - Festive trees make spiny leaves to ward off nibblers.'.
うちのセイヨウヒイラギの葉の棘が少ないのが気になっていましたが、ナショナルジオグラフィック誌の「ヒイラギの葉、トゲ発生の仕組みが判明」と題する記事を読んで理由が分かりました.
