Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

RHUBARB JAM (ルバーブジャム)

It is difficult to grow rhubarb in our area because of the high temperature and humidity in the summer. We planted it in the ground and let it die many times during the rainy season.

So I decided to grow it as a potted plant. I bought a seedling in September last year, potted it, and it has grown big leaves in autumn. In the winter, I grew it indoors in the garden room, and it continued to grow without going dormant, and in the spring, it grew many leaves again. The leaves were harvested each time, and the stems were cut into small pieces and frozen for storage. In the summer, it stopped growing so much, so I put it indoors again to protect it from the heat and humidity.

当地では夏の高温多湿のためルバーブは育てにくく、地植えにして何度も梅雨時に枯らしました. そこで、鉢植えにして育てることにしました.

昨年9月に苗を購入して、鉢植えにして秋には大きな葉を茂らせてきました. 冬はガーデンルームの室内で育てて、休眠することなく育ち続け、春にはまたたくさん葉を茂らせました。葉はそのつど収穫して、その茎を小さく切って冷凍して保存しました. 夏になりあまり成長しなくなったので室内にまた鉢を入れ、暑さから守っています.
