July is the time for new leaves on fern palm. So we prune off the old leaves from last year. Sometimes flower buds also emerge.
I use loppers (large pruning shears) for pruning fern palm leaves. Leather gloves are required due to the thorns on the leaves and trunk.
Looking closely at young leaves, neatly arranged spiral patterns can be found.
七月にはソテツの新しい葉が出てきます. そこで去年の古い葉を剪定します. 時には花芽も出てきます.
剪定にはロッパー（大型の剪定ばさみ）を使います. 葉や幹に鋭いとげがあるので、皮の手袋が必要です.
若い葉をよく見ると整然と並ぶ渦巻模様が見て取れます.
