Two types of vine plants are trained to the walls on either side of the large window of the garden room. On the right-hand side of the window is passion flower and on the left is potato vine.
The Japanese name 'tokeiso' (Clock flower) comes from the fact that it has pistils that look like the three hands of a clock. The flowers of the passion flower wilt within a day, so it is not common for many flowers to bloom at the same time.
Potato vine has flowers that resemble aubergine flowers. They are blue at the start of flowering, gradually changing to white. I like it because of its cool colour and it blooms well during the summer months.
