Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

DARK PURPLE AKEBIA FLOWERS (アケビの濃い紫色の花)

Last year, we built a fence for the clematis and the akebia using welded wire mesh along the walls of the house.

The clematis bloomed beautifully last year in early summer, but the akebia flowered for the first time this year. And that's really a lot of flowers.

It is a type of akebia called Akebia trifoliata, and the flowers are dark purple, almost black in colour. It has male and female flowers, and pollination helps it to produce fruit.

The fruits ripen in autumn, split lengthwise and the sweet jelly-like part around the seed is eaten.

昨年、家の壁際に溶接金網を使ってクレマチスとアケビのためのフェンスを作りました。

クレマチスは昨年の初夏に綺麗に咲いていましたが、アケビは今年初めて花をつけました。それも本当にたくさんの花です。

ミツバアケビという種類のアケビで、花の色は濃い紫色で、ほとんど黒く見えます。雄花と雌花があって、授粉により実が付きやすくなります。

実は秋に熟し、縦に割れて、種のまわりの甘いジェリー状の部分を食べます。
