Petit English Garden of MARPLE & POIROT

My wife and I started gardening in Fukuoka (Japan) in 2003. There was nothing but muddy clayey sloping land. At the beginning we made several structure such as steps and paths, and planted turf, fruit trees, roses, herbs etc. In 2010, we visited several famous English gardens, including Sissinghurst Castle Garden, Mottisfont Abbey Garden and Hidcote Manor Garden. We were shocked by the glory of those gardens. Since then, we have been trying to make small but glorious gardens by ourselves.

庭の紹介

　夫婦で庭づくりを福岡の郊外で2003年に始めました.　赤土むきだしの斜面にまず階段や園路をつくって芝をはり、果樹やバラ、ハーブなどを植えました.

　2010年にイギリスの有名なガーデンの、シシングハースト、モティスフォントアビー、ヒドコートマナーなどを回り、その素晴らしさに圧倒され、それから自分たちで小さくても素晴らしい庭をめざして庭づくりをつづけています.

ROCKET-SHAPED PERENNIAL BUDBURST (ロケット形の多年草の芽吹き)

In March, rocket-shaped shoots grow gnarled out of the soil. Those who have never seen them before are a little surprised at their odd shape.

The tip splits a little and folded leaves grow out from inside. Two leaves consisting of three small lobes with pointed tips then spread out. From the base of these two leaves, oddly shaped flowers emerge.

This is the most common of several species of Japanese Arisaema in our area.

The fruit, which is made up of many bright red grains like corn, grows from summer to autumn and is used as food for birds.

三月に入ると、土の中からロケットの形をした新芽がニョキニョキと伸びてきます。見たことのない人はその異形さに少し驚きます。

先端が少し割れて、中から折りたたまれた葉が伸びてきます。そして先端がとがった3つの小葉からなる葉が二枚広がります。その二枚の葉の付け根からは、変わった形の花が出てきます。

日本で何種類かあるテンナンショウの仲間で、私達の住む地域ではこれが最もよく見られます。

夏から秋に真っ赤な粒がたくさんついた実がなって、鳥の餌になります。
