The azalea is a very popular flowering plant in Japan. In our part of the country, the large-flowered 'Hirado' azalea and the small-flowered 'Kurume' azalea are the most commonly grown. In our garden we grow azalea 'Kurume' because it is more compact than 'Hirado'. The flowers come in a wide variety of colours and are so numerous that the foliage cannot be seen.
ツツジは日本では大変人気のある花木です. 私たちの地方では、大きな花のヒラドツツジと小さな花のクルメツツジがよく育てられています. わたしたちの庭では樹形がコンパクトなクルメツツジを育てています. 花色は豊富で、葉っぱが見えないほど花がびっしりとつきます.
