Echium candicans, also known as Pride of Madeira, is native to the Madeira Islands. It is a perennial herb and can grow up to 2 meters tall.
In spring, it produces long flower spikes with numerous small blue flowers.
We have been growing them from seeds for several years now, and now have many seedlings growing from spilled seeds.
The flowers bloom every year for a couple of years and then die off.
Last spring this flower bloomed wonderfully in the main garden, but this year it has grown many flower spikes at the edge of the bluebell garden and is now starting to bloom.
